Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Tops Rutgers-Camden in NJAC Opener, 1-0

Huerta Nets Game-Winner for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Junior JOSE HUERTA scored off a rebound on a penalty kick that turned out to be the only goal as Montclair State slipped past Rutgers-Camden 1-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday evening.

Senior MIKE SAALFRANK picked up his third shutout of the season as the Red Hawks (6-1-1, 1-0 NJAC) got their conference slate off to a good start.

MSU outshot the Scarlet Raptors (3-3-1, 0-1 NJAC) 22-7 in the contest yet it was still scoreless in the 36th minute when Montclair was awarded a penalty kick. Rutgers-Camden keeper James Brett stopped the attempt by Huerta however the junior quickly followed up the carom for the goal, his sixth of the year.

Montclair State turned up the pressure in the second half with 14 shots however Brett was able to fend off the seven on goal to keep the match at a 1- score. Rutgers-Camden played the final 5:48 of the game with a man-advantage following a red card to the Red Hawks.

But the Raptors managed just one shot during that time, an attempt with 1:57 left that went wide.

Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, September 19 at home against Mount St. Vincent beginning at 6:00 pm.
