CARLY WATERMAN recorded 10 kills with senior
NATALIA MAJKUT adding eight as Montclair State posted its third straight victory, sweeping past New Jersey City at the Panzer Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.
VICTORIA TENNON added seven kills as the Red Hawks (6-4, 1-1) earned their first NJAC victory of the season. MSU won the first two sets by identical 25-14 scores before closing out the match with a 25-11 victory in the third. Yaidettive Vega led the Gothic Knights (3-7, 0-2 NJAC) with five kills.
Higgins and Waterman had four kills apiece in the opening set as Montclair State jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Leading 10-6, MSU ripped off three points in a row as Majkut and Higgins each had kills sandwiched around an ace from
ASHLEY GRIFFITH. MSU added two more for a nine-point advantage and 21-13 following a kill from Higgins.
JILLIAN WILSON served two straight aces for a 24-14 lead before Tennon closed it out with her third kill of the opening set.
Montclair grabbed an early lead in the second and widened it to 11-6 following a three-point run. Wilson and Higgins had back-to-back kills and a block by Wilson and Griffith made it a five-point advantage. NJCU trimmed the lead back to 16-13 however the Red Hawks added another four-point burst for a 20-13 lead. After a Gothic Knight kill, MSU finished off the set with a 5-0 run, three by Wilson, who put down the final two points in the 25-14 triumph.
ALEXANDRA CAMPOS and
APRIL DIANGELO each served four straight point as Montclair built a 13-4 lead in the third.
CAITLIN LANGE dropped in a kill making the score 17-9 before the Red Hawks closed out the match with a four-point run for a 25-11 win.
Wilson added six kills and a team-best five blocks for MSU, which got six kills from Higgins. Griffith totaled 33 assists along with four digs while Campos led the Red Hawks with 10 digs.
Montclair State is back in action on Thursday, September 20 with another conference contest. The Red Hawks will be in Camden, NJ for a 7:00 pm matchup with the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden.
