JILLIAN WILSON hit .769 knocking down 10 kills in 13 attempts as Montclair State extended its winning streak to four matches with a three-set win at Rutgers-Camden on Thursday evening.
Freshman
CARLY WATERMAN led the Red Hawks with 13 kills as MSU (7-4, 2-1 NJAC) swept past the Scarlet Raptors (2-9, 0-3 NJAC) by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12.
Montclair enjoyed a solid hitting night with a .313 efficiency.
LEAH HIGGINS had six kills while
VICTORIA TENNON and
NATALIA MAJKUT each had three. Setter
ASHLEY GRIFFITH collected 31 assists and three digs with libero
ALEXANDRA CAMPOS notching 12 digs to lead all players.
In the first set, the Red Hawks trailed 17-14 before going on a five-point run to take the lead. Watermand had two kills in the spurt. After a Rutgers-Camden point, Montclair scored six of the next seven to take the set.
LEAH HIGGINS and Tennon each had a kill with
MEGAN O'ROURKE serving an ace in a set-ending three-point run.
A four-point run in the second set helped MSU build a 13-8 lead which later grew to 18-10 after a 5-0 burst. Waterman recorded three kills in that span. The Raptors would get the lead down to 20-16 however Montclair collected the final five points to take the set. Waterman served up an ace on set point capping off a 25-16 win.
Tied at 3-3 in the third set, Montclair scored six in a row as Waterman had two kills with Wilson adding one along with a block. MSU widened the lead to 20-10 before closing out the set scoring five the final seven points.
SARAH GONCZLIK finished off the match with a kill.
The Red Hawks are now off until Tuesday, September 25 when it hosts Rowan University at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm.
