Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team had its three-match winning streak halted on Tuesday as the Red Hawks fell to Rowan University 3-1 at the Panzer Athletic Center.
Megan Jacobi and Kailey Gallagher recorded 12 and 10 kills respectively as the Profs (11-7, 2-2 NJAC) captured the first set 25-17 before dropping the second 25-22. Rowan bounced back with wins of 25-21 and 25-23 to close out the match.
Freshman
LEAH HIGGINS finished with 17 kills for Montclair State, which dropped to 7-5 overall, 2-2 in NJAC play. Classmate
CARLY WATERMAN added eight kills while
JILLIAN WILSON and
NATALIA MAJKUT posted six kills apiece.
Senior
ASHLEY GRIFFITH had 37 assists and six digs for MSU, which hit just .170 on the night including a -.069 in the first set. The Red Hawks also committed 16 service errors in the match. Freshman
VICTORIA TENNON chipped in with five kills and four blocks. Majkut led MSU with five blocks.
APRIL DIANGELO registered a team-best 15 digs with libero
ALEXANDRA CAMPOS also reaching double figures with 11.
Erin Keegan led three Rowan players in double figures with 22 digs in addition to nine kills. Lauren Horbacewicz and Jamie Shirtz totaled eight kills each. Alaina Santacroce and Tori Mock put up 22 and 19 assists respectively for the Profs, who also served up eight aces – four by Mock.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Thursday, September 27 as they host Keystone College at 7:00 pm.
