Volleyball Powers Past Keystone in Non-Conference Action

Tennon 10 Kills as Red Hawks Sweep Giants

Montclair, NJ – Freshman VICTORIA TENNON collected 10 kills and hit .643 for the match as Montclair State swept past Keystone College in three sets at the Panzer Athletic Center on Thursday evening.

Sophomore MEGAN O'ROURKE collected 15 assists and a pair of service aces as the Red Hawks (8-5) knocked off the Giants (4-9) 25-20, 25-15, 25-12. Victoria Homfeld had eight kills and three digs for Keystone.

Freshman CARLY WATERMAN had four kills in the opening set with NATALIA MAJKUT, LEAH HIGGINS and SCHYLER WHITE each recording three as MSU pulled away late for the first-set win. Tied at 14-14 the Red Hawks ripped off four straight the last on an ace by Waterman for an 18-14 advantage. The Giants got within 21-20 however Tennon and Majkut had back to back kills before two errors by Keystone ended the set.

ASHLEY GRIFFITH registered three aces and served seven straight points to open the second set. After Keystone was able to stop that run, however Montclair tacked on another six straight for a 13-1 lead. O'Rourke added an ace as the lead grew to 19-4. Keystone made run to get within 24-15 however a kill by White ended the set and gave Montclair State a 2-0 advantage.

Another strong start by MSU in the third led to an 8-2 lead that eventually grew to 20-10 on a kill b SARAH GONCZLIK, who next kill made the score 23-11. JILLIAN WILSON got the Red Hawks to match point and MADISON CROWE ended it with an ace, her second and the last of 10 by Montclair in the match.

KATELYN MONAGHAN led 15 digs while Waterman posted seven.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 29 with a tri-match at Baruch College. The Red Hawks will face St. Joseph's (LI) at 10:00 am followed by a Noon matchup with the host Bearcats.
