Poughkeepsie, NY – Vassar College's Emily Poehlein scored early in the first half which turned out to the be the only goal as the Brewers handed No. 9 Montclair State is first loss of the season on Wednesday evening.
Vassar (6-1) limited the Red Hawks to just seven shots, including none on goal. Junior
NICOLE ANDRIANI had six saves for Montclair State (7-1).
The Brewers limited Montclair to just one shot in the first half with that attempt coming five minutes into the contest. Andriani made one save before Vassar broke through at the 16:42 mark. Off a free position pass by Megan Caveny, Poehlein found the back of the cage giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Vassar nearly came close to increasing the lead however Andriani came up with a save against Sam Plante with five minutes to play before halftime and denied Alyssa More with 1:27 to go keeping the contest at 1-0.
In the second half MSU would outshoot Vassar 6-3, but all six shots were off the mark or blocked by a Brewer defense that would go on to record its fourth straight shutout and fifth overall.
The Red Hawks will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 22 when it travels to Gwynedd-Mercy University for a 4:00 pm contest.
