Men's Soccer Rolls Past Brooklyn College for Second Straight, 8-0

Huerta, Soglo Two Goals Apiece for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Junior JOSE HUERTA and classmate NIXON SOGLO each scored a pair of goals as Montclair State registered its second consecutive 8-0, this one over Brooklyn College at MSU Soccer Park on Monday afternoon.

Senior RAFAEL TERCI added a goal and assist for the Red Hawks (2-0-1), who defeated New Rochelle by the same score on Sunday. MSU collected its fourth straight victory against the Bulldogs (0-2) and lead the all-time series, 5-1. It was the first meeting between the two since 2015.

Terci put Montclair on the board in the 14th minute lofting ball off a set piece into the right corner of the goal for his second of the season. Huerta extended the lead 45 seconds later banging in his own rebound off a stop by keeper Balint Barabas and made it a 3-0 contest at the 17:07 mark finishing off a cross by Terci.

Soglo knocked in the next two goals, the first at 22:31 when he tapped in a carom off a blocked shot. The next one came in the 27th minute. Red Hawk keeper MIKE SAALFRANK sent a booming kick down the field. Soglo outran the defender and headed the ball over a charging Barabas for a 5-0 advantage.

DIMITRI MATARAS got the final goal of the first half, heading in a corner kick serve from BRENT LLEWELLYN. Juan Carlos Marino and GRIFFIN BACON netted in the second half to finish off the MSU scoring.

Saalfrank and ZACH BIBLE shared the shutout for MSU with Saalfrank making one stop in the first half. The Red Hawks outshot the Bulldogs 25-4 and had all three corner kicks in the match.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, September 5 as it hosts Hunter College at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 5:00 pm.
