CARLY WATERMAN registered 21 kills while classmate added 15 kills as Montclair State captured its second straight with a 3-1 victory over U.S. Merchant Marine on Saturday afternoon.
ASHLEY GRIFFITH had 34 assists and nine digs for the Red Hawks, who squared their record at 3-3 on the season. Montclair won the first set 25-20 before falling in the second, 25-22. MSU claimed the final two sets 25-20 and 27-25.
Waterman hit .386 for the match making just four errors in 44 attempts and also added 11 digs for a double-double performance. Higgins, who added two aces and five digs, was just as impressive in her efficiency with one miscue in 33 attempts.
SCHYLER WHITE had six kills and
JILLIAN WILSON five in addition to four blocks. Libero
ALEXANDRA CAMPOS led Montclair with 14 digs and also had six assists.
MEGAN O'ROURKE had nine assists and nine digs.
The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 11 as it opens NJAC play. Montclair will head to Union to face defending champion Kean University at 7:00 pm. It will be a rematch of last year's conference tournament semifinal won by the Cougars.
