Women's Soccer Gets Second Straight Shutout; Beats Frostburg 4-0

Beenders Goal, Assist for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Junior EMILY BEENDERS scored once and assisted on another as Montclair State posted its second straight identical victory with a 4-0 triumph over Frostburg State at a rainy MSU Soccer Park on Sunday.

SOPHIE CALVERLEY, GABRIELLE TANCREDI and Emily Bathmann each had a goal for the Red Hawks, who recorded the same score in their win over New Paltz on Wednesday evening.  MSU moved to 3-0-1 on the year, 2-0 against the Bobcats (1-2) as the teams met for the first time in four years.

Beenders gave Montclair a 1-0 advantage 3:23 into the contest as she notched her third goal. Taking control on the left side of the box, Beenders moved back toward the middle before firing a shot into the upper right corner for the game's first score.

Calverley extended the lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute, her first of the season. MICHAELA KNOBLOCK served a ball from the right side in front where Calverley was able to head it in. Tancredi helped send MSU into the locker room up by three converting a penalty kick with 4:54 remaining before halftime.

Bathmann got the final score with 6:31 for her first career tally. Beenders served a long ball from inside midfield that Bathmann ran on to just outside the box. She moved in toward the middle before slipping a shot past Rhianna Lapen.

LINDSAY FREEWALT (five) and PHOEBE BLEDSOE (one) combined on the shutout stopping six shots. Lapen made three saves for the Bobcats. Montclair outshot Frostburg State 15-12.

The Red Hawks begin a string of four straight games on the road starting on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 pm in Newburgh, NY and Mount St. Mary College.
