MSU Pushes Past William Paterson, 72-63

Parham (14 Points) Sparks Red Hawks

Wayne, NJ – Junior forward JALEN PARHAM came off the bench and scored 14 points along with five rebounds as Montclair State swept its season series with local rival William Paterson after a 72-63 victory at the WPU Rec Center on Wednesday evening.

Junior EDDIE EMEDOH added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists as the Red Hawks (12-5, 7-3 NJAC) turned a one-point halftime deficit into a nine-point victory claiming its second win over the Pioneers (10-7, 5-5 NJAC). Montclair recorded a 63-61 triumph at the Panzer Athletic Center in November.

MSU struggled from the field shooting in the first half making just 8-of-27 shots from the field but managed to build a 15-8 lead midway through the period after Parham connected on a jumper. Parham's bucket with 3:19 to go gave Montclair State a 27-26 lead before the Pioneers answered with five straight taking a 31-27 advantage a minute later. Emedoh hit twice from the line and another by AKBAR HOFFMAN helped MSU cut the lead to 31-30 at the break.

Emedoh regained the lead for the Red Hawks early in the second half and a three by DEVIN COOPER put MSU in front 40-34 with 15:41 remaining. The Pioneers' Malcolm McLeod made it a three-point game with 12 minutes to play before Montclair scored seven in a row taking a 47-37 lead on a JOSEPH RADI layup with 11:31 left.

Montclair State would virtually maintain its double-digit lead which swelled to 65-49 with three minutes remaining on two free throws by Cooper.

Hoffman added 12 points while JORDAN ROBERSON and IRVING CALLENDER IV had nine and eight points respectively. Callender pulled down a team-high 12 boards with Roberson grabbing 10 as MSU held a 49-38 advantage on the boards. Cooper scored eight points.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, January 19 hosting Kean University at the PAC with tipoff set for 1:00 pm.
