KEVIN CLAUSS won two individual events and swam on a winning relay squad as Montclair State celebrated its Senior Day with a sweep of Ramapo College at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
KEVIN HENNINGSEN posted the similar finishes as the Red Hawk men (1-5, 1-2 NJAC) registered a 143-114 victory in their first competitive action since December 1. Freshman
TAYLOR WADDLETON captured both long-distance freestyle events helping the women (4-3, 3-1 NJAC) to a 146-109 triumph.
Clauss and Henningsen combined with
JAMES SINGEWALD and
CHARLES COBBERTT to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:38.60. Clauss earned his first individual win taking the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:01.19 and later added a win in the 200 event, clocking in at 2:14.34. Henningsen's two wins came in the butterfly events taking the 200 in a time of 1:59.60 and the 100 in 53.71 seconds.
Freshman
TYLER DORSETT and junior
KEVIN GIBSON split the long distance freestyle events. Dorsett claimed the 1000 out-touching Gibson with a time of 10:58.50 with the later coming in .12 seconds later. They would reverse roles in the 500 with Gibson (5:03.65) edging out Dorsett (5:03.81) by .16 seconds.
Gibson would lead a 1-2-3 MSU finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.44 seconds.
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI was second at 22.49 with Cobbertt third at 22.90 seconds. Cobbertt claimed victory in the 100 backstroke (54.71 seconds) while Singewald earned the top spot in the 200 backstroke (2:03.28). Romanowski was a winner in the 100 freestyle posting a time of 48.36 seconds.
On the women's side, Waddleton swam 11:17.71 to win the 1000 freestyle before coming back to claim the 500 event in a time of 5:34.81. Juniors
CLAIRE LUIGARD and
EMILY ROTHAMEL also won two individual events. Luigard captured the 200 freestyle (2:04.29) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.16) while Rothamel swam 1:03.21 to claim the 100 backstroke and 2:15.64 for a win in the 200 backstroke.
Christine Cusmano took the top spot in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.91 seconds with
MADISON FRANKE going 57.03 seconds for first place in the 100 freestyle.
NATALIE WALL recorded a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:41.05) with
MARGAUX WINCHOCK getting the final individual win for MSU in the 100 butterfly (1:00.88).
Winchock, Rothamel, Luigard and Franke teamed up for a triumph in the 200 medley relays as the quartet posted a time of 1:53.12.
The men's squad will be in action on Wednesday, January 23 when it travels to Poughkeepsie to face Vassar College. Both teams close out their dual meet schedule next Saturday, January 26 at William Paterson.
