Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team outscored Ramapo College 22-4 in the fourth quarter as the Red Hawks turned a 12-point deficit into a 60-54 victory at the Bradley Center on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore guard
TAYLOR BROWN scored 17 points leading three players in double figures as MSU improved to 12-6 on the season, 8-3 in the NJAC. Jenna Harsh finished with a game-high 18 points for the Roadrunners (9-10, 4-9 NJAC).
The Red Hawks trailed 50-38 heading into the final period, but scored 18 straight points in the first seven minutes as it kept Ramapo off the scoreboard until 3:29 to play. Sophomore guard
CERYS MACLELLAND bookended the first 10 points with a pair of layups getting MSU within 50-48 with 5:18 to play.
KIM CALLOWAY tied the game 29 seconds later with a jumper before Brown drilled a three giving Montclair its first lead since the early part of the second quarter.
ALEX MCKINNON followed with another three to finish off the run as Montclair led 56-50. Ramapo's Samantha Rinaldi finally got the Roadrunners on the board trimming the deficit to four points. Ramapo, which shot 2-of-17 in the fourth, misfired on several chances during a two-minute span as MSU maintained its 56-52 advantage. Calloway went to the line with 51 seconds and made one free throw. MacLelland added another with 39 seconds and after a
DOMONIQUE WIRSING make at the line, MacLelland hit once with seven seconds left for a 60-52 lead. Tia Solomon scored at the buzzer for the final margin.
MacLelland finished with eight points and a team-best 11 rebounds for Montclair, which was 8-of-13 from the field in the final quarter. McKinnon added 12 points with Calloway totaling 10 along with six rebounds.
Montclair State is back in action on Saturday, January 26 hosting The College of New Jersey at the Panzer Athletic Center with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 pm.
