Montclair, NJ – The College of New Jersey got a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds from sophomore Shannon Devitt as the Lions knocked off Montclair State 54-33 at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
Jen Byrne added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lions (11-8, 9-3 NJAC), who swept the season series with MSU. Freshman guard
JULIA SUTTON scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds for the Red Hawks (12-7, 8-4 NJAC).
ALEX MCKINNON gave Montclair State a 2-0 lead before the Lions scored the next five points en route to a 9-6 lead after one quarter.
CERYS MACLELLAND hit from behind the arc with 4:33 to play in the second quarter bringing MSU within 11-10 however TCNJ netted the final six points, including a field goal by Byrne for a 17-10 lead at the break.
The Lions took control in the third quarter outscoring Montclair 24-15. Devitt had four points early in the fourth extending TCNJ's lead to 25-12. Cailey Gibson's three-pointer with six seconds left sent the Lions in the fourth quarter up 41-25.
McKinnon and
TAYLOR BROWN had six points and four rebounds apiece for MSU.
DOMONIQUE WIRSING added five points and a team-best nine rebounds.
Montclair State makes a quick turnaround as it hosts Kean University on Monday, January 28 at 6:00 pm.
