Red Hawks Tame Lions, 72-63

Mitchell-White 21 in Return, Emedoh Double-Double as MSU Tops TCNJ

Montclair, NJ –Sophomore guard MYLES MITCHELL-WHITE returned to the line and scored 21 points off the bench helping Montclair State to a 72-63 victory over The College of New Jersey at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Junior EDDIE EMEDOH posted his second straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Red Hawks improved to 13-6 overall, 8-4 in the NJAC. Randy Walko and Niall Carpenter had 16 points apiece for TCNJ (11-8, 7-5 NJAC).

Montclair trailed 7-6 five minutes into the game before Emedoh scored on a layup giving MSU a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way. MSU used an eight-point burst later in the period taking a 17-9 lead on a JOSEPH RADI three-pointer. The Lions were able to whittle the deficit to 26-25 on Walko's field goal however Mitchell-White drained a three boosting the advantage back to four points.

Mitchell-White added three more points in the final three minute helping the Red Hawks take a 34-29 lead into halftime.

Radi's three-pointer with 13:42 to go in the second half got the MSU lead into double digits at 47-37. TCNJ would creep within four points with 5:18 remaining but Emedoh connected from behind the arc less than a minute later making the score 56-49. The Lions made one more push as Jordan Glover hit two from the line making the score 59-55 with 2:52 left.

IRVING CALLENDER IV countered with two foul shots and Mitchell-White added another giving Montclair State a seven-point advantage. Callender delivered the knockout punch hitting a three with 65 seconds left putting MSU in front 65-55. The Red Hawks closed out the game hitting 7-of-10 free throws.

JALEN PARHAM added 10 points, four rebounds and five blocks for MSU which got nine rebounds and eight rebounds from Callender.

Montclair State returns to action on Monday, January 28 host Kean University at 8pm. The contest is a makeup from last Saturday which was postponed due to the snowstorm.
