Field Hockey Falls 1-0 at Stockton

Red Hawks shutout in loss

Galloway, NJ – Stockton's Casey Cordonna scored the game's only goal two minutes into the second quarter lifting Stockton to a 1-0 victory over No. 18 Montclair State on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends MSU to 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC. The victory was Stockton's first over the Red Hawks since 2005 and second in 18 meetings in the program's history.

Issy Gilhooley registered the assist on the lone goal as she fired a blast toward Cordonna who deflected it home for a 1-0 lead 2:24 into the second period.

The Red Hawks did have several opportunities in the game but couldn't find the back of the net. The Red Hawks outshot the Ospreys 11-8 in the contest but only five of the 11 shots were on target.

Montclair State had the potential game-tying goal disallowed on a high shot with just under nine minutes remaining.

Senior goalkeeper NICOLE ANDRIANI kept the Red Hawks in the game stopping six shots in the loss. Emily Gilligan made five saves to record the shutout for the Ospreys (11-2, 1-2).

The Red Hawks host TCNJ next Saturday at 7 p.m. as it searches for its first NJAC win.
