Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Contest to TCNJ

Red Hawks fall in ranked matchup

Montclair, N.J. – Montclair State field hockey dropped a close 1-0 matchup against No. 2 The College of New Jersey on Saturday night at Sprague Field. The Lions defense stifled the Red Hawks as it dropped its third consecutive NJAC contest. 

The second-ranked Lions improved to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in NJAC play as the 20th-ranked Red Hawks fall to 8-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
 
Montclair State continued to turn away the Lions in the first half, until they broke through in the 27th minute. On the Lions 15th penalty corner of the half, they finally broke through. Kayla Peterson hit a shot from outside the circle that was deflected in by Kayla Andrews.TCNJ held the 1-0 lead into the half.
 
NICOLE ANDRIANI stood tall against the top scoring offense in the NJAC. She made eight saves to keep the deficit at one.  Montclair State had an opportunity to tie the game in the final minute.  KATELYN OSTERLIND ripped a shot from a penalty corner but Maddie Beaumont made her second save of the night to secure the win. 

TCNJ outshot the Red Hawks 19-3 in the game, and the Lions held a 22-4 advantage in penalty corners.
 
Montclair State returns home on Wednesday evening where it will face William Paterson at 7:00 p.m.
