Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team dropped a tough 3-1 NJAC match against conference-leading Stockton at the Panzer Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The Red Hawks (16-6, 3-3 NJAC) was the first team to capture a set against Stockton in conference-play but couldn't hold off the Ospreys.
Christie Louer and Julie Kohlhoff had 14 and 12 kills respectively as Stockton (21-2, 5-0 NJAC) took the match by the scores of 25-20, 14-25, 25-20, 25-18 to extend its winning streak to 14 games.
CARLY WATERMAN and
JILLIAN WILSON finished with 13 kills apiece for Montclair State.
Stockton broke the first set open with seven straight points, three on kills by Louer, for a 12-6 lead. The Ospreys went on to win the set 25-20.
The Red Hawks came out firing in the second set, registering a .378 hitting percentage on its way to a 25-14 win in set two. MSU limited Stockton to a .059 hitting percentage as the Ospreys dropped its first set in conference play.
Montclair State continued its momentum into the third set and led 9-8 before Stockton went on a 6-1 run to recapture the lead. MSU would trim the lead to 21-20 before Stockton closed out the set with four consecutive points to take a commanding 2-1 lead.
The Red Hawks couldn't hold off the efficient Ospreys in the fourth set as they hit .429 in the final frame to secure the win.
MEGAN O'ROURKE chipped in with a double-double after tallying 44 assists and 10 digs.
MADDIE VALKO and
SIYARA HERBERT had 16 and 15 digs respectively in the loss.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Thursday, October 17 as they travel to Wayne, NJ to face William Paterson at 7 p.m.
