Newark, NJ - The MSU Volleyball team clinched the number four seed in the NJAC tournament with a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday evening. The Red Hawks will host a first round NJAC tournament game on Tuesday, November 5 against an opponent to be determined.
Montclair raced past the Scarlet Raiders by the scores of 25-15, 25-8, 25-15.
GIANNA ARIAS paced the Red Hawks (18-6, 5-3 NJAC) in the win with 11 kills. The 11 kills was a career-high for Arias as the Freshman recorded a hitting percentage of .526 in the win.
MSU trailed in the first set by the score of 10-8 when the Red Hawks went on an 8-0 run to take a 16-10 lead. The run helped Montclair cruise to the first set win as
CARLY WATERMAN recorded a kill to give MSU a 25-15 win in set one.
The momentum carried into the second set as Montclair cruised to a 25-8 win in the second set. Montclair outhit the Scarlet Raiders .407 to -.182 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. MSU scored 11 of the final 12 points in the second game.
Montclair State clinched the sweep with another 25-15 win in the final set. Montclair jumped out to an early 7-3 lead and never looked back.
MADDIE VALKO led the defensive attack with 14 digs.
MEGAN O'ROURKE dished out 27 assists as MSU picked up 10 aces in the win.
Montclair returns to action on October 29 when it faces Lehman College at the Panzer Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m.
