Montclair, NJ - The MSU women's soccer team lost its first NJAC contest on Saturday, suffering a 3-0 setback against TCNJ at MSU Soccer Park. Three different Lions registered a goal to keep them undefeated in conference action.
Taylor Nolan, Randi Smith and Kelly Carolan each scored for TCNJ as the Lions improved to 13-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 in NJAC action. Nicole Dipasquale tallied five saves in the shutout.
TCNJ got on the board in the eighth minute after Gianna Coppola hesitated in the right side of the box and set up a perfect cross in the middle of the field. Nolan was able to finish the pass in the bottom right corner to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
The Lions kept up the pressure as Coppola started another scoring opportunity. This time her cross set up Randi Smith as she scored her fourth goal of the year 10 minutes later for a 2-0 advantage.
MSU put pressure on Dipasquale, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Red Hawks got off four shots on goal in the period but came up empty.
TCNJ put the game out of reach in the opening minutes of the second half. Coppola nearly picked up a third assist as she crossed the ball into the box to Carolan. Carolan's inital shot was blocked but she recovered the rebound and buried it in the back of the net only three minutes into the final half.
MSU would not be able to overcome the deficit and only tallied two shots over the final 45 minutes.
Montclair returns to action on October 30th when it travels to Union, NJ for the regular season finale against Kean. The Red Hawks will earn the No. 2 seed in the NJAC playoffs with a win or draw.
