Montclair, NJ – Montclair State rolled past Manhattanville 3-0 at the Panzer Athletic Center on Friday night.
LEAH HIGGINS led the balanced Red Hawk attack with 12 kills in the win. Higgins was the lone MSU player to reach double digit kills.
Junior setter
MEGAN O'ROURKE totaled 27 assists and chipped in with six digs as MSU (13-4) knocked off the Valiants (12-5) by the scores of 25-19, 25-7 and 25-11. The Red Hawks snapped Manhattanville's 10-match winning streak with the win.
MSU set the tone in the opening set, jumping out to an 11-5 lead, forcing Manhattanville to spend its first timeout. The Red Hawks built the lead to 10 after a pair of attack errors by the Valiants.
VICTORIA TENNON and
CAITLIN LANGE combined on a block to give MSU the 25-19 win in the first set.
The Red Hawks continued its domination in the second set with a 25-7 win. Montclair held the Valiants to a -.179 hitting percentage in the set and had nine team kills to take the commanding 2-0 lead.
Montclair would ice the match with another strong start to a set. Montclair jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the set and never relinquished the lead.
SIYARA HERBERT had seven service aces in the win as the Red Hawks registered 13 aces in the match.
Montclair outhit the Valiants .280 to .039 while tallying 11.5 team blocks at the net. Herbert registered a team-high 10 digs with
MADDIE VALKO adding nine.
The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, October 8th with a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest against Ramapo at the Panzer Athletic Center set for 7:00 pm.
