Field Hockey Wins Second Consecutive Game in Shootout

Red Hawks prevail 1-0 over York

Montclair, NJ – Montclair picked up its second-straight win coming via shootout, prevailing 1-0 over York College on Saturday evening at Sprague Field. Senior goalkeeper NICOLE ANDRIANI stopped 14 shots to register the shutout as the Red Hawks improved to 8-3 overall.

Andriani stood tall in net on Senior Day as MSU was out shot 21-5 in the contest. The Spartans (6-5) put pressure on net all night but was unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

MSU had several chances to win it in the first overtime, but a pair of KELLY WATSON's shots were turned away by York goalie Sam Keating.

After 80 minutes of scoreless action, Montclair would head to a shootout for the second consecutive game.

Watson would convert the Red Hawks first attempt to put the pressure on the Spartans. York's Meghan Heary followed with a make to tie the shootout at one.

Elizabeth Cimiluca would bury her shootout attempt as Andriani stuffed Hannah Huffman's stroke to give the Red Hawks a 2-1 lead. York would even up the score as Dana Meehling would find the back of the net and LINSEY CHAMPA missed her shot.

MADDIE FREEMAN converted on the fifth attempt, forcing York to convert their final shot to extend the game. Andriani bailed out the Red Hawks for the last time and stopped Amanda Boclair on her opportunity as the Red Hawks won the shootout by the score of 3-2.

Montclair State opens up NJAC play on Tuesday, October 8th on the road at Kean. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
