Montclair, NJ – Senior forward ALEX MCKINNON and freshman guard NICKIE CARTER each earned honors on Monday as the duo was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

McKinnon and Carter played essential roles in helping the Red Hawks to the championship of the MSU Holiday Tournament over the weekend as Montclair improved to 7-4 on the year with victories over Bethany (WV) and York (PA).

McKinnon, selected to the All-Tournament Team, averaged 14.0 points and six rebounds while shooting .500 from the field and making all eight of her attempts at the line. McKinnon posted eight points and six boards along with four assists as the Red Hawks opened the tournament with a 71-29 win over Bethany (WV). The following day she recorded 20 points, including six in a game-ending 21-8 run as Montclair claimed the title with a 67-54 victory against York (PA). McKinnon also had six rebounds and was 6-of-6 at the foul line down the stretch.

Carter, the Most Valuable Player, was outstanding in the two games. The first-year player averaged 22.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 47.4 from the field, including .455 from three-point range. Carter recorded a season-high 25 points along with two rebounds against Bethany and made it back-to-back 20-point performances with 20, including five in a game-ending run versus York.

Carter currently leads Montclair in scoring at 14.0 points per game, with McKinnon ranking right behind at 10.9 points per contest along with 5.8 rebounds per game. Carter and McKinnon currently rank seventh and 11th respectively among NJAC scoring leaders.

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, January 3, in a matinee contest at Stevens in Hoboken.
