Montclair, NJ – York College's Meghan Fox scored five goals, three coming during a nine goal spurt bridging the two halves as the sixth-ranked Spartans knocked off Montclair State 14-4 at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
Skyler Slater added three scores with Devin Hursey tallying twice as York improved to 2-0 on the season.
CHELSEA ORBAN had two goals for the Red Hawks (0-1).
Jordan Conley got the Spartans on the board 42 seconds into the game and Hursey's first four minutes later made the score 2-0. Orban tied the game up with two goals in a 67-second span and the 2-2 tied held for the next eight minutes before York went on its decisive run.
Regan Cook put the Spartans on top with 12:53 to go and Fox registered the next three, her first coming 25 seconds after Cook's goal for a 4-2 advantage. Fox scored with 8:19 left and again with two minutes to play for a 6-2 lead before feeding Caitlin Rankin for a goal with 11 seconds remaining as the Spartans led 7-2 at the break.
Slater began the second half with two straight and Chloe MacDonald's goal with 20:28 to play extended the lead to 10-2. Slater's third off a Hayley McCormick assist completed the run.
JESSICA ANDREULA got the Red Hawks back on the board with 17:46 left however Hursey's goal with 10 minutes and Fox's final two gave York a 14-3 lead with 6:49 remaining. Meghan Mahlstadt got the final goal for MSU.
AMANDA MAGUIRE stopped eight shots in the first 30 minutes before
ALLYN LILIEN came on to make four in the second half. Abby Smith had seven for York.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, February 27 at home taking on in-state rival Stevens at 5pm.
