SYDNEE SAPP scored off a free-position attempt 38 seconds into overtime lifting Montclair State to a 15-14 victory over Misericordia University at Sprague Field on Monday afternoon.
Sapp's goal was the final swing in the back and forth game as the Red Hawks (2-1) posted their second straight victory. Senior
CHELSEA ORBAN led MSU with four goals with Sapp and
KYLE GRAVER registering four and three, respectively. Justine Johnson tallied five goals for the Cougars (3-2).
Montclair State led 7-6 at halftime as
JESSICA ANDREULA scored with 51 seconds remaining in the first half. Amy Roth and Johnson opened the second half with goals 72 seconds part giving Misericordia the lead 8-7. Sapp tied the game with 27:04 to play however Johnson sparked a four-goal run by the Cougars for a 12-8 advantage with 22:56 left.
The Red Hawks would answer with a 6-0 run over a 15-minute span.
MEGAN MAHLSTADT and Orban connected 13 seconds apart before Graver netted back to back goals, the second tying the contest at 12-12 with 10:48 to go. Orban recorded her fifth two minutes later and Sapp's goal with four minutes to play gave MSU a 14-12 advantage.
Misericordia would not be done as the Cougars pulled within a goal when Johnson scored unassisted with 2:43 left. Kaila Quinlivan, who finished with four goals, tied the game with 1:18 remaining. Montclair State would win the ensuing draw and held possession for the final shot.
BRITTANY COSTIGAN was fouled with nine seconds setting up a free-position shot. But the Cougars' Maggie McGovern stopped the attempt sending the game into overtime.
The extra period would last a little over a half-minute.
LEANNE MCCLOSKEY won the draw and after moving the ball down to the arc, Sapp was awarded a free-position attempt which she converted for the game-winning goal.
Mahlstadt finished with two goals and three assists for Montclair. Costigan recorded her second straight game with double-digit draw controls recording 10 along with three ground balls. McCloskey led the Red Hawks in ground balls with five along with five draws and four caused turnovers.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Thursday, March 7 as it travels to Long Island, NY to face Farmingdale State at 5:00 pm.
