MATT HAEMMERLE scored four times, including twice late in the fourth quarter as Montclair State tallied the final three scores in a 10-8 victory at Vassar College on Wednesday afternoon.
Haemmerle added two assists with freshman
JESSE JAMES WEST scoring a goal and three assists helping the Red Hawks (1-2) pick up their first win of the season and first for new head coach Matt Poskay. Michael Mullen had three goals for the Brewers, who fell to 1-1 on the new season.
Montclair led 6-4 at halftime however Logan Hyde and Drew Adams scored early in the third, tying the game at 6-6.
SEAN STADTLANDER regained the lead for MSU with 8:35 to play in the quarter but Mullen connected 43 seconds later to forge the fifth tie of the contest. Spencer Duryee put Vassar in the lead as he finished off a Nick Diamond feed with 1:40 remaining sending Vassar into the final period up 8-7.
But the Red Hawks clamped down on the Brewers in the fourth limiting the hosts to just six shots. Still MSU found itself down a goal with 8:21 to go when West found
BRYAN PETERS for the tying goal. The game remained that way until three minutes left when Haemmerle gave Montclair the lead 9-8 with his third of the contest.
Montclair State won the ensuing faceoff with
WILSON SMITH scooping up the ground ball off the win. MSU possessed the ball until Haemmerle found the back of the net again with 1:36 left making the score 10-8. The Red Hawks again captured the faceoff and ran the clock down to 40 seconds before giving up the ball with 40 ticks. Any hopes for Vassar went by the wayside as the Brewers turned the ball back nine seconds later.

JACK CARDEW finished with 14 saves for Montclair State which got two goals and an assist from Stadlander.
KYLE MATTHEWS won 12 times at the "X" and
VINNY SCARLATELLA had a team-high six ground balls in addition to causing a pair of turnovers.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, March 2 with another road contest. Montclair heads to University of Scranton for a 12:00 pm matchup with the Royals.
