Men's Lacrosse Rolls to Second Straight Win, 18-9

West Four Goals, Haemmerle Six Points as MSU Tops Scranton

Scranton, PA – Freshman attack JESSE JAMES WEST scored four times while senior Matt Haemmele added three goals and three assists as Montclair State evened its record with an 18-9 victory over Scranton on Saturday afternoon.

Sean Stadltlander and TYLER MCCREERY each netted three goals as the Red Hawks squared their record at 2-2 with its second consecutive victory. Michael Elofonte and Joe Hill had two goals apiece for the Royals (2-3).

Scranton record the first two goals of the game before Montclair relled off five in a row over a nine-minute span during the opening quarter. Stadtlander tied the game with two goals 39 seconds apart before Haemmerle put MSU in front with 10:22 to play. West scored his first with five minutes to go with DAN BELLEZZA registering the final goal for a 5-2 advantage with 3:42 left.

The Royals closed the gap to 5-4 at the end of the first however the Red Hawks tallied all three goals in the second quarter. McCreery had the first with 12:22 to go with West picking up the last two, including one with six seconds remaining as Montclair State led 8-4 at halftime.

The scoring continued into the third as MSU put the first four goals on the board. Bellezza, Stadtlander, McCreery and Haemmerle each had one giving Montclair a 12-4 advantage with 3:53 on the clock. Elefonte finally broke through for Scranton but goals by West and STEVE PRINCE widened Montclair State's lead to nine heading into the final period.

CHRISTIAN BOYLE recorded three assists while McCreery had two helpers. KYLE MATTHEWS was dominating at the "X" going 24-of-26 with 12 ground balls. Montclair was 26-of-31 on faceoffs in the game. Bellezza and MICHAEL FERDINANDI each had five ground balls while defender NICK SNOW added three along with a pair of caused turnovers.

JACK CARDEW stopped 10 shots in three quarters of work before MATTHEW MCLAREN and TOM POLLOCK finished up the game.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 6 hosting No. 18 Usrinus College at Sprague Field. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
