Orban Hits Milestone Mark as MSU Upends No. 24 Stevens, 16-10

Senior Scored Seven; Collects Career Goal No. 100

Montclair, NJ – Senior CHELSEA ORBAN scored seven times, including the 100th goal of her career as Montclair State upended No. 24 Stevens, 16-10 at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Jessica Andruela added four goals while MEGAN MAHLSTADT totaled two goals and five assists as the Red Hawks (1-1) picked up their first win of the season in addition to snapping a two-game losing streak against its in-state rival. Kyra Bednarski tallied seven goals for the Ducks (0-1).

Bednarski sandwiched a pair of goals around scores from BRITTANY COSTIGAN and Mahlstadt for a 2-2 tie eight minutes into the contest. The Red Hawks tallied the next three during a two-minute span. Andreula got the first one with 21:05 to play and Orban scored the next two, the second her milestone one giving MSU a 5-2 lead with 19 minutes left. Orban became the 20th player in Montclair State history to record 100 career goals.

Bednarski scored her third, however Montclair got the next two with Mahlstadt's third of the game pushing the lead to 7-3 with 12 minutes to go. Orban would get two more in the final five minutes as Montclair went into halftime with a 10-5 advantage.

Orban's goal to open the second half widened the lead to six goals before back-to-back Bednarski tallied closed the gap to 11-7 with 20:50 remaining. After the teams alternated the next two goals, Andruela and Orban connected 33 seconds apart giving the Red Hawks a 14-8 lead with 11 minutes left.

Costigan won dominating on draws winning 12, one shy of her single-game record set last season. She also had three ground balls and forced four turnovers. Senior LEANNE MCCLOSKEY led Montclair with nine ground balls and recorded three draws and two caused turnovers. AMANDA MAGUIRE made one save in her one half of work before ALLYN LILIEN came on to make six in the final 30 minutes.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, March 2 with another home game. The Red Hawks host Misericordia University at 1:00 pm.
