Women's Lacrosse Drops Second Straight, Falls to Claremont, 12-10

Orban Scores Six in Loss

Montclair, NJ – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Allie Hill and Sammie Cohen each scored three times as the Athenas used a three-goal spurt in the second half for a 12-10 victory over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Sunday afternoon.

Corie Hack added a pair of goals as CMS (7-1), won its second straight and captured the first of its two contests in New Jersey. Claremont faces Kean University on Tuesday, March 19 in Union.
Senior CHELSEA ORBAN collected six goals for the Red Hawks, who dropped their second straight and fell back to the .500 mark at 3-3.

Orban scored Montclair's first five goals including one to open the game 2:36 into the contest. Her third with 11:43 to play in the first gave MSU a 3-2 lead however the Athenas posted the next four.
Cohen began the run with 9:14 left and Alex Futterman put CMS on top two minutes later. Emma Johnson and Sally Abel scored 10 seconds apart for a 6-3 lead before Orban tallied with 10 seconds left sending Montclair State into halftime down two goals.

The Red Hawks quickly tied the game in the first two minutes of the second on goals by Orban and KYLE GRAVER. Hack answered for Claremont but Orban's sixth with 23:46 remaining knotted the contest at 7-7. Cohen's goal less than a minute later put CMS back in front however LEANNE MCCLOSKEY scored off the ensuing draw forging a third tie of the game at 8-8.

Hack sparked the decisive spurt with just over 20 minutes to play in the half. Hill scored with 18:29 remaining with Cohen adding one 20 seconds later for an 11-8 Athenas lead. SYDNEE SAPP snapped the run with a free-position goal but Cohen pushed the advantage to 12-9 with 12 minutes left.

Graver would get the Red Hawks within 12-10 finishing off a Hayley Doran feed with 12 minutes to go however that would be as close as MSU would get.

Meghan Mahlstadt finished with three assists. DANA SUSSE and Orban led Montclair State with three caused turnovers each. McCloskey had two along with four draws and a team-best seven ground balls. Sophomore BRITTANY COSTIGAN pulled down 10 draws, her third contest this season with double-digits.

MSU returns to action on Tuesday, March 19 as it heads back to Allentown, PA to take on Muhlenberg College at 4:00 pm. The game is a rescheduled of Friday evening's contest that was postponed after a rain and lightning storm just prior to the start of the game.
