Second-Half Run Propels Brockport Past Women's Lacrosse, 13-9

Red Hawks Drop First Game in Upstate New York Weekend Trip

Brockport, NY – Chloe Kurst scored three times as College at Brockport overcame a two-goal halftime deficit for a 13-9 victory over Montclair State on Saturday afternoon.

Heather Conklin added three goals as the Golden Eagles (4-1) outscored the Red Hawks 9-3 in the second half. MEGAN MAHLSTADT, SYDNEE SAPP and AMBER GONZALEZ each had two goals for MSU (4-4), which has dropped three of its last four contests.

After the teams traded the first four scores of the game, Montclair State took a 4-2 lead as Mahlstadt collected her second off an assist from KYLE GRAVER. ERIN CAMPBELL found the back of the net with 10:42 to play giving MSU the two-goal advantage. Victoria Thompson cut the lead back to one a minute later however goals by Graver and Gonzalez pushed the Red Hawks' lead to 6-3 with 5:52 left before halftime.

Kurst scored with 1:18 to play in the first trimming the deficit to 6-4 at halftime. The goal turned out to be the first of a five-goal run by Brockport which tied the game at 6-6 just 42 seconds into the new period. Thompson registered the equalizer with Allison Jennings giving the Golden Eagles the lead 7-6 at the eight-minute mark.

Hannah Cullen capped the run 26 seconds later putting Brockport up by two. CHELSEA ORBAN snapped the run getting MSU within 8-7 with 19:43 to play. Conklin and Gonzalez traded goal keeping the game at a one-goal differential before the Golden Eagles netted three straight for a 12-8 advantage with 10:11 left.

Sapp got the Red Hawks back to 12-9 just over a minute later. Jennings netted the final goal of the game scoring her eighth of the season with 7:30 remaining.

BRITTANY COSTIGAN finished with four draws and three caused turnovers. LEANNE MCCLOSKEY led Montclair with five draws in addition to three ground balls and a caused turnover. Goalkeepers AMANDA MAGUIRE and ALLYN LILIEN recorded nine and eight saves respectively.

The Red Hawks go right back to work on Sunday, March 24 with a Noon contest at SUNY-Geneseo.
