Montclair, NJ – Colby College's Robyn Pirie scored five times as the 10
th-ranked Mules topped Montclair State, 13-6 at Sprague Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Emma Banks and Grace Langmuir each had two goals as Colby upped its record to 6-1 on the season in the first meeting between the teams. Senior
CHELSEA ORBAN tallied three goals for the Red Hawks, who fell back to the .500 mark at 5-5.
Taylor Moore gave the Mules a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the game. Montclair answered 24 seconds later as
JESSICA ANDREULA ripped shot past Izzy Scribano. Langmuir set up Pirie with 25 minutes left and Banks Dotson scored two minutes later for a 3-1 lead.
KYLE GRAVER got the Red Hawks back within a goal inside 20 minutes to play however Pirie and Banks countered as Colby led 5-2. Orban's free-position goal made it a two-goal contest with 11 minutes to go however Pirie boosted the lead back to 6-3 with her third of the game. MSU's
MICHAELAH REYNOLDS and Langmuir traded goals inside the final five minutes as the Mules led 7-4 at halftime.
Colby quickly extended its lead in the second half with the first three goals. Pirie got the first with 26:05 left with Grace Crowell scoring 22 seconds later. Banks capped the run with 17:57 to go as the Mules took a 9-4 lead. Orban stopped the run but Langmuir and Bridget Horwood each found the back of the net giving Colby a 12-5 advantage with 6:13 remaining.
Langmuir added two assists and four draws for the Mules. Kelsey Otley led Colby with five caused turnovers with Horwood and Melinda Edie posting five and four ground balls, respectively. Scribano stopped six shots.
AMANDA MAGUIRE made seven saves for the Red Hawks with
ALLYN LILIEN totaling five in her 30 minutes of action. Lilien recorded five ground balls while
BRITTANY COSTIGAN snared eight draws.
Montclair is back in action on Saturday, March 30 hosting in-state rival FDU-Florham at Noon.
