Montclair, NJ – Freshman rightfielder
CHRISTOPHER WALKER drove in two runs as Montclair State scored the first nine runs in an 11-4 victory over DeSales University at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman first baseman
PETER COSENTINO had two hits and an RBI for the Red Hawks, who moved back to the .500 mark at 7-7. Frank Licari dove in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs (7-10).
Montclair got out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning as
BRODY LABBE scored on a balk for the game's first run.
HAYDEN REYES made it a two-run advantage in the fourth with a sacrifice that scored
NICK MARTINEZ from third.
MSU erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning.
JUSTIN BATES scored on an error for the first run with Cosentino's infield single plated
JOE NORTON for a 4-0 lead. Walker singled into right field driving in two more and later scored on an error as the lead grew to seven. Norton walked with the bases loaded with Dominick Leuizzi doing the same as the Red Hawks led 9-0.
DeSales would break the shutout in the seventh on an RBI ground out. Montclair answered with two in the bottom of the inning.
BRAD EDWARDS dropped a single into centerfield for a RBI before
CHRISTOPHER CORVIL scampered home on a wild pitch for the final MSU run.
Freshman lefthander
JONATHAN ANDERSON (1-2) got the victory as he struck out four over his three innings of work.
MATTHEW MINCIELI tossed three shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts. Norton went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, March 30 with its first NJAC contests of the season. Montclair hosts Ramapo College in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 11:30 am.
