MATT HAEMMERLE scored five times while freshman
JESSE JAMES WEST registered an eight-point afternoon as Montclair State scored the first 10 goals in a 21-7 victory over Bryn Athyn on Saturday afternoon.
ROBERT BRENNAN scored four times as the Red Hawks bounced back from its loss on Wednesday to even its record at 6-6 overall, 2-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference action. Kyle Shaffer scored three times for the Lions (3-7, 2-2 CSAC).
MSU scored three times in the first 1:51 of the contest. Haemmerle finished off a West feed 42 seconds in with
TYLER MCCREERY tallying 23 seconds later for a 2-0 advantage Haemmerle tallied against with 13:09 left before netting his fourth 35 seconds later making the score 4-0. West scored the next three goals, the latter two assisted by Haemmerle widening the lead to seven goals.
CONNOR MCCOY picked up the eighth goal with Brennan and
JOE LARACCA scoring in the final three minutes giving the Red Hawks a 10-0 lead.
Bryn Athyn snapped the string with the first two goals of the second however Montclair countered with three in a row. Haemmerle bookended a goal from
JON LANZALOTTO to push the lead to 13-2 with 2:28 to play before halftime.
West finished with five assists with McCreery adding three helpers. Montclair won 24-of-29 faceoffs, including a 12-for-13 effort from
KYLE MATTHEWS who also had eight ground balls.
DARIO SIRNI was 7-for-8 at the "X". McCreery and
NICK DETORE each forced a pair of turnovers. Goalkeepers
MATTHEW MCLAREN and
TOM POLLOCK stopped three and four shots, respectively.
Montclair State returns to action on Monday, April 15 when it travels to Kings Point, NY to face U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7:30 pm.
