Glenside, PA – Arcadia University scored five runs in the first two innings as the Knights knocked off Montclair State, 8-1 at Skip Wilson Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Sean Carew and Phil Piefry each had two hits and two RBI for Arcadia (18-12). Carson Denham got the victory as he allowed four hits and a run over four innings or work. Denham improved to 2-2 on the season. Freshman
DANIEL CLEMENTE belted a solo home run for the Red Hawks (10-19), who dropped their 11
th straight contest.
Arcadia got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first inning. Bryan Gillen led off with a single and went to third on an error. Carew followed with a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. Piefry singled and Dylan Towey walked to load the bases. Nick Ponente then laid down a bunt single that brought home two more giving the Knights a 3-0 lead.
The led increased by a two runs in the second as the Knights began the inning with three straight hits, including an infield single by Zak Thomas that scored Matt Ernst. Piefry's RBI ground out made the score 5-0. Carew's run-scoring single in the fourth gave Arcadia a six-run advantage.
Clemente got the Red Hawks on the board as he led off the fifth inning with a solo homer, his second of the season.
Piefry and Zachary Sekelick delivered the final runs in the eighth for the Knights.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, April 17 when it hosts Kean University at Yogi Berra Stadium with first pitch of the NJAC contest set for 3:30 pm.
