No. 6 Men's Soccer Powers Past St. Joseph's, 7-0

Goldberg Two Goals; Tumelty Becomes All-Time Winningest Coach

Montclair, NJ – Freshman JUSTIN GOLDBERG scored twice as sixth-ranked Montclair State powered its way past St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), 7-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday evening.

Senior MATT NETO and sophomore MICHAEL KNAPP each collected a goal and assist as the Red Hawks improved to 2-0 on the season and gave head coach Todd Tumelty his 140th career victory making him the all-time wins lead in program history.

MSU wasted little time getting on the board as senior JOSE HUERTA scored 43 seconds into the contest with a no-look back-tap goal off his right foot from six yards out. Goldberg made it 2-0 five minutes later off an assist from Knapp, who made it a three-goal advantage in the 13th minute converting a penalty kick.

Neto, who had a hat trick in Friday's victory against Marywood, notched his fourth goal of the young season at the 17:34 mark before setting up Goldberg two minutes later giving the Red Hawks a 5-0 lead. FRANK ORAMAS recorded the final goal of the half for Montclair with ERICK CHICAS picking up the assist.

Freshman OSCAR SANCHEZ accounted for the last goal with 25:07 to play in the second half.

The Red Hawks outshot the Bears (0-2), 33-2 in the game. Freshman DEAN DEPINTO earned the shutout in his first career start.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, September 4 with another home game. The Red Hawks host Hunter College at MSU Soccer Park with kickoff set for 7:00 pm.
