OSCAR SANCHEZ scored in the 68
th minute which turned out to be the only goal of the game as Montclair State handed Moravian College its first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
Junior goalkeeper
MICHAEL MEJIA posted four saves for the shutout as the Red Hawks (5-2) won its second straight contest. MSU also improved to 5-0-1 against the Greyhounds (4-1).
Scoring chances were difficult to come by in the first half as Montclair got off six shots in the opening period with only one on target. That came in the 15
th minute as
BROGAN QUIGLEY fired a shot that was stopped by Moravian keeper Michael Bone.
Bone came up with stops versus
MICHAEL KNAPP and
JOSE HUERTA in the first five minutes of the second half keeping the contest at 0-0, however the Red Hawks finally broke through at the 67:58 mark on Sanchez's fourth of the season.
COLIN MULLIGAN sent a ball to the top of the six yard line where Sanchez was able to knock it inside the left post for the lead.
Andrew Goodolf got off an attempt in the 73
rd minute that was snatched by Mejia, who would make two more in the final three minutes. The first came against Akinori Mollenthiel with 2:58 to play with the next one a stop versus Anthony Nagy with 54 seconds left.
The Red Hawks, who played four times in the last five days, will have a week layoff from matches returning to the pitch on Wednesday, September 18 at home versus Centenary College at 4pm.
