LaPlume, PA – Senior
NIXON SOGLO and
DEVAUGHN FOSTER each scored goals as Montclair State knocked off Keystone College, 2-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
Foster collected what turned out to be the difference maker as the Red Hawks improved to 7-3 on the season. Carlos Bonilla scored for the Giants (5-3-1).
Soglo put MSU on the board in the sixth minute with his fourth goal of the season. That came less than a minute after
OSCAR SANCHEZ was stopped by Keystone goalkeeper Erick Gomez. The Red Hawks put four more on goal in the first 45 minutes, however Gomez was able to turn aside each attempt as the game went to the half at 1-0
Gomez stopped one more shot to open the second half, but couldn't come up with a save against Foster, who extended the Montclair lead to 2-0 in the 58
th minute with his second of the year. That two goal would last just 89 seconds as MSU was whistled for a foul inside the box. Bonilla would convert the penalty kick trimming the lead to 2-1.
But that would be last shot the Giants would get as the Red Hawks defense held the host without a shot over the final 31:10 of the contest.
MICHAEL MEJIA got the victory as he recorded a pair of saves. Gomez finished with six. MSU outshot Keystone 13-7 in the contest and took four of the six corner kicks in the match.
Montclair State is off until Saturday, September 28 when it travels to Glassboro, NJ for an NJAC matchup with Rowan University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
