New Paltz, NY – Junior
ELIZABETH CIMILLUCA scored late in the first half which turned out to be the only goal of the game as No. 13 Montclair State slipped past SUNY New Paltz, 1-0 at the North Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper
NICOLE ANDRIANI stopped 11 shots for her second straight shutout as the Red Hawks upped their record to 3-0 on the young season. MSU registered its fourth straight victory over New Paltz and now leads the series 17-1.
Ryan Dowling had six saves for the Hawks (2-1), who suffered their first loss of the season.
Dowling made three saves in the first 12 minutes keeping the contest at 0-0 before Montclair broke through on Cimilluca's second goal of the season with 43 seconds to play in the opening period.
Andriani, an All-American a year ago, made that stand up as she stopped one shot at the end of the first quarter and added two more to open the second. She would come up big again denying Jamie Wagner with 14 seconds remaining before half as MSU took the one-goal lead into the locker room.
Neither team would find the back of the cage over the final 30 minutes as Dowling and Andriani pitched shutouts in the final 30 minutes. Andriani stopped two in the third and closed out her seventh career shutout with four saves in the final period including one against Wagner with 1:09 left.
Montclair State stays on the road for its next contest. The Red Hawks travel further into Upstate New York on Saturday, September 7 for a 2:00 pm matchup at SUNY Cortland.
