Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams each recorded victories over in-state rival FDU-Florham Tuesday evening.
The women's team won 102-72 while the men earned a 113-83 triumph.
The Red Hawk women got things off to a fast start, as they claimed the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior
EMILY ROTHAMEL, seniors
MADISON FRANKE and
DANI ZIMMERMAN, along with sophomore
TAYLOR WADDLETON claimed first with a time of 1:57.6 while the quarter of rookie
ERIN BARRETT, seniors
CLAIRE LUIGARD and
MARGAUX WINCHOCK and junior
SOPHIA CIARAVINO were a mere .05 behind them.
Waddleton captured second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 11:22.85 while freshman
CAMRYN VOGEL was third in 11:47.68. Montclair took the top-three times in the 200-free, with Rothamel clocking in at 2:07.98 before Zimmerman and freshman
EMMA BOWERS finished in 2:08.71 and 2:14.77 respectively.
Franke won the 50-yard freestyle, winning by over two seconds with a mark of 25.35 before Luigard took first in the 200-yard IM in 2:21.14. Barrett was the top finisher in the 100-butterfly, winning in 1:03.98 with second place nearly 10 seconds behind her. Zimmerman earned her first victory of the evening by touching the wall in 1:05.14, winning by a mere .65 ticks. Montclair closed out the win with Ciaravino, Rothamel, Waddleton, and Winchock taking first in the 200-freestyle relay.
On the men's side, sophomore
GREG KARBACK, freshman
MATTHEW CIATTARELLI, and seniors
KEVIN GIBSON and Mitch Layne opened the night with a first-place time of 1:44.58 in the 200-medley relay. Karback would go to win the 100-yard freestyle in 51.26 and took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Ciattarelli notched a second-place time in the 100-free before Gibson earned second in the 100-backstroke in 1:01.16.
The foursome of
CHRYSTIAN MUHLEISEN,
TYLER DORSETT,
STEPHEN BARNARD, and
SAMUEL GOLOVIN took second in the opening relay in 1:45.86. Muhleisen finished behind Layne in the 200-free, with Layne taking first in 1:55.22. Gibson nabbed second place in the 100-back, placing behind Muhleisen's mark of 57.9. Dorsett was first in the 200-IM, winning by five seconds over Eric Bang of FDU. Golovin and Barnard were the top-two finishers in the 100-yard butterfly to close out the scoring for the Red Hawks.
Up next, the Red Hawks resume NJAC action, competing against Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon. The meet kicks off at 2 p.m.
