Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State women's swimming and diving team earned a 165-95 victory over Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Saturday.
The men's side was topped 152-110.
For the women, the team started the meet by claiming first and in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of
EMILY ROTHAMEL,
CLAIRE LUIGARD,
MARGAUX WINCHOCK, and
SOPHIA CIARAVINO touched first in 1:55.42 while
ERIN BARRETT,
PONSEE IBRAHIM,
CAMRYN VOGEL, and
DANI ZIMMERMAN were third in 2:02.45.
TAYLOR WADDLETON won the 1,000-free as she took first in 11:18.34.
MOLLY GRAY was third in the event in 11:56.83, with Jackie Grayson claiming fourth in 12:02.39.
The Red Hawks took the top three spots in the 200-free, led by
MADISON FRANKE's 2:01.52 finish. Zimmerman and Ciaravino were second and third respectively, while Rothamel won the 100-backstroke in 1:02.85. She edged out Barrett by a mere .15 seconds. Zimmerman captured her second second-place finish on the afternoon in the 200-fly before Franke claimed first in the 100-free. Her time of 56.32 was over a quicker than Winchock's second-place mark.
Rothamel made it three first-place finishes as she touched the wall in 2:1498 during the 200-backstroke before Gray was able to win the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:31.95. Waddleton continued to dominate the distance events, as she won the 500 by almost eight seconds before Barrett closed out the individual events with a victory in the 200-IM. Franke, Rothamel, Ciaravino, and Zimmerman closed out the win by taking first in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:58.9.
In men's action,
MITCHELL LAYNE edged out Spencer Hughes of Ramapo to take first in the 1,000-free as
TYLER DORSETT claimed third.
SAMUEL GOLOVIN won the 200-free by over two seconds, winning in 1:49, with
STEPHEN BARNARD taking third in 1:53.91.
Dorsett and Barnard went 1-2 in the 200-fly, as Dorsett earned first in 2:02.61 before
KEVIN GIBSON won the 50-free in 22.43. Golovin won his second event of the day in the 100-free, touching the wall in 49.46, just .31 faster than his closest competitor. Layne was edged out of first by .20 seconds in the 500-free, settling for second with a mark of 5:03.68.
Golovin and Barnard claimed the top two spots in the 100-fly, with Golovin notching a time of 54.49. Barnard had to fight for second, clipping his Ramapo opponent by just .03 seconds. The Red Hawks closed out the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay, as Gibson, Layne, Dorsett, and
GREG KARBACK compiled a time of 3:25.24.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, hosting Vassar at the Panzer Pool beginning at 6 p.m.
