Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their dual meet season on Wednesday with losses to Vassar College at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool.
The men fell to the Brewers 152-146, completing a 3-6 dual meet record for the year. Meanwhile, the women dropped the 171-122 decision as it ended the season at 6-5.
Both teams will now be off until the 2020 Metropolitan Championships, which will take place February 21-23 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
EMILY ROTHAMEL, CLAIRE LUIGARD, MARGAUX WINCHOCK ad MADISON FRANKE got the Red Hawks women off to a good start taking the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.62. Franke and Luigard would later finish 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke with Franke capturing the event with a time of 1:11.15, out-touching Luigard by .17 seconds.
Winchock added a victory in the 50 freestyle (25.91), and Franke collected a victory in the 100 freestyle clocking in a winning time of 56.11 seconds. Winchock made it two individual events wins registering a time of 1:01.60 in the 100 butterfly. Senior PONSEE IBRAHIM swept the one-meter diving events taking the first section with a score of 176.85 and the second scoring 226.50 points.
On the men's side, freshman SAMUEL GOLOVIN won three individual events and helped a relay to another victory. He began the evening as the third leg of the 200 medley relay that finished first in a time of 1:39.84. Golovin was joined on that quartet by CHRYSTIAN MUHLEISEN, MATTHEW CIATTARELLI, and KEVIN GIBSON.
Golovin collected his first solo triumph in the 200 freestyle posting a time of 1:47.05 before nipping Gibson in the 100 freestyle at the wall at 49.14 seconds. Gibson's time was 49.54 seconds. The freshman wrapped up the night, winning the 100 butterfly in a time of 54.01 seconds.
Muhleisen and GREG KARBACK were 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.25 and 58.24 seconds. Ciattarelli was a winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.59), with Gibson taking top honors in the 50 freestyle (22.32 seconds). Muhleisen claimed the final swimming event win for the Red Hawks, placing first in the 100 butterfly (2:02.83).
Senior diver IAN JOHNSON won the first section of the 1-meter event with a score of 189.60 points.
