Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Farmingdale State in Opener, 16-4

Graver Four Goals, Brown Seven Points

Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder KYLE GRAVER scored four times while sophomore RHIANNON BROWN added three along with four assists as Montclair State jumped out to a big first-half lead and cruised to a 16-4 victory over Farmingdale State on Friday afternoon.

Senior MEGAN MAHLSTADT added two goals and two assists for the Red Hawks in their season-opening win. MSU improved to 12-4 against the former Skyline Conference foe, winning for the sixth straight meeting. Emily Piciullo scored twice for the Rams (0-1).


Montclair State put the first 10 goals on the board, starting with Brown's unassisted tally 2:36 into the contest. Graver tallied 18 seconds later, and Mahlstadt connected with 26:15 left, making the score 3-0. Brown netted the next two, the second coming with 18:39 to go, and Graver's second less than a minute later boosted the score to 6-0.


Senior SYDNEE SAPP scored twice 51 seconds apart for an eight-goal advantage, and Mahlstadt's second goal pushed the lead to 9-0. Brown set up AMBER GONZALEZ for the final goal as the Red Hawks led 10-0 with 10:51 to go before halftime.


Piciullo snapped the MSU run with four minutes to play before halftime and the Rams opened the scoring in the second with goals from Sam Shelton and Courtney Gendels, cutting the deficit to 10-3 with 25:38 left. Graver and Piciullo traded goals to keep the margin at seven before MSU closed out the contest with the final five goals. HALEY DORAN posted two in the spurt, the last coming with five minutes remaining giving Montclair State a 15-4 advantage.

Gonzalez added four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and four draws for the Red Hawks. BRITTANY COSTIGAN led MSU with five while Graver pulled in four. Senior goalkeeper AMANDA MAGUIRE stopped three shots in the first half before junior ALLYN LILIEN came on in the second and made seven saves.


Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, February 26, making the short trek to Hoboken, NJ, facing Stevens at 3:30 pm.
