Mahlstadt's Six Points Leads Women's Lacrosse Past FDU-Florham

Senior Attack Scored Four Goals and Two Assists

Madison, NJ – Senior attack MEGAN MAHLSTADT recorded four goals and two assists as the Montclair State women's lacrosse team topped FDU-Florham 15-3 in non-conference play Wednesday.

The Red Hawks (2-1) move to 12-6 all-time against the Devils (1-2). MSU has won each of the last nine meetings, holding FDU to under nine goals in seven of those matchups.

Off a MORGAN CONNON caused turnover, the Red Hawks opened the scoring 4:21 into the game. Mahlstadt found classmate KYLE GRAVER for the opening tally of the game. The stingy Red Hawk defense did not allow a shot over the first 11:36 of the game and tallied three more goals during that stretch. AMBER GONZALEZ netted a free-position goal before Mahlstadt notched an unassisted tally just under two minutes later. Graver and Mahlstady linked up for the second time, extending the lead to 4-0 at the 10:52 mark.

Senior goalkeeper AMANDA MAGUIRE made a pair of free-position stops midway through the opening stanza, and the Red Hawks added five additional tallies in the period. RHIANNON BROWN and Connon recorded unassisted markers before Brown and Mahlstadt added their second goals of the game 2:17 apart late in the period. FDU got on the board with 2:58 left in the half, as Aliyha Elk found Bridget Lapham to spoil the first half shutout bid.

ALLYN LILIEN took over in goal in the second half and made two saves early on to keep the Devils at bay. Kylee Garcia scored 4:52 into the period to cut into the MSU lead, but the Red Hawks scored three goals in a 1:12 span to break the game back open. Mahlstadt completed her hat-trick, and six seconds later, Gonzalez found a cutting Sydney Sapp for a goal.
The Devils got one back on a free-position tally by Olivia Chaoush, but TRISTIN KONEN and Mahlstadt notched goals within 23 seconds of each other to open up a double-digit lead. With time winding down, Connon capped the Montclair scoring with an unassisted goal.

MSU out-shot FDU 35-22 and were 12-of-15 on clearing attempts. The Red Hawks also had a significant edge in draw controls, winning 13-of-19.
Graver, Gonzalez, and Brown all notched two goals, with Sapp adding a goal and an assist. Graver also had a team-high five draw controls, while junior MEGHAN GORMAN forced three turnovers on the backline. Lilien made seven saves while Maguire made four.

The Red Hawks head south to Florida, taking on Rochester Institute of Technology on Monday at 12:30 pm in Clearwater, Fla. It is the first meeting between the two sides.
