Montclair, NJ – Freshman
EMMI DENOVELLIS had a goal and assist during a 3:46 span late in the second half as Montclair State broke through in the final eight minutes for a 3-0 victory over Ramapo College at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday.
AILEEN CAHILL and
ZOE STECK each netted a goal as the Red Hawks snapped their two-game losing streak and improved to 8-4 overall, 4-2 in conference play.
Emma Conlan made 10 saves for the Roadrunners, who fell to 0-10-1, 0-5-1 in the NJAC.
Montclair dominated the shot column taking 24 of the 27 in the contest, yet it found itself in a scoreless battle thanks to Conlan, who made four saves in the first half. She made back-to-back stops against
CATHERINE CARNEVALE and
SAMANTHA HOWARD in the 17
th minute and added her third with a save in the 25
th minute versus
KERRI DRISCOLL. She made one more before the half, denying
EMILY DEGEYTER with 6:21 to go.
Still scoreless, Conlan kept stymieing Montclair State with six more saves until the Red Hawks broke through in the 82
nd minute. DeNovells intercepted a clearing pass from just on the other side of midfield and weaved through several defenders before unleashing a left-footer from the top of the box that hit the underneath of the crossbar before dropping in for her second of the season.
Two minutes later, it was Cahill adding to the lead with her sixth goal. DeGeyter popped a head back into the box that floated over three players into the middle. Cahill outraced Conlan to the ball, tapping a shot inside the right post as Montclair State led 2-0 with 6:51 to play.
Steck finished off Montclair's scoring barrage 118 seconds after the Cahill score. DeNovellis served a perfect ball off a corner kick into the middle of the box. Steck headed the feed past Conlan for her seventh tally of the season.
HALEY MARTIN and
LINDSAY FREEWALT combined on the shutout with Freewalt making the lone save, a stop in the 70
th minute on a shot by Amanda Gouldsbury.
The Red Hawks go back into action on Saturday, October 16 with another NJAC contest. MSU makes the short trip to Wayne, NJ to face William Paterson at 1:00 pm.
