ZOE STECK recorded a hat trick as Montclair State put up a season-best six goals in a 6-2 win at William Paterson on Saturday.
LINDSAY BATHMANN and
AILEEN CAHILL each had two assists as the Red Hawks (9-4, 4-2 NJAC) turned an early one-goal deficit into their second straight win and second in a row against its local rival.
Isabel Fernandez gave the Pioneers (5-7, 2-5 NJAC) a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute as she took a pass from Daniella LoBue and chipped a shot from the right side of the box into the opposite lower corner for her third tally of the season.
Montclair erupted for three goals in a 3:52 span starting in the 22
nd minutes as Steck collected the first of her three scored.
TARA LAMBERT played a ball from the right corner into the middle of the box where Steck was there for the header knotting in the contest at 1-1. Steck put the Red Hawks on top 2:36 later with her ninth of the year with
JOELLE D'ANGELO capping the run at the 25:4 mark, heading in a pass by
PAIGE YOCUM.
The 3-1 halftime lead grew to 4-1 just seven seconds into the second half as Steck fired a shot from the right side of the box for her third of the game and 10
th of the season. She is the first MSU player to score double digits in goals since Emily Beenders had 11 in the 2018 campaign.
William Paterson halved the deficit to 4-2 in the 54
th minute. Fernandez set up Julia Fiorito for the latter's fifth of the year.
Montclair State would get that back in the 61
st minute on a Yocum goal. Bathmann knocked a ball from the right side across the box for Yocum, who chipped in the feel for her first of the season.
KERRI DRISCOLL netted the final goal in the 69
th minute heading in an
EMMI DENOVELLIS pass.
JULIA DELLISANTI stopped two shots for MSU, which outshot the Pioneers, 21-5.
Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, October 20 with a non-conference road game. The Red Hawks will be in Newburgh, NY to face Mount St. Mary at 4:00 pm.
