Ewing, NJ – Freshman forward AMER LUKOVIC scored two goals as No. 15 Montclair State remained red hot with a 3-0 victory at The College of New Jersey on Saturday evening.
JANBI KAGHADO also had a goal for the Red Hawks (10-1-1), who posted their sixth consecutive victory while remaining unbeaten in the NJAC at 4-0. All six victories have come via shutout for MSU, which defeated the Lions for the third consecutive meeting and fifth time in the last seven matchups.
Kaghado nearly gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead in the first 33 seconds of the game, however, his shot clanged off the crossbar. In the 15th minute, Montclair was awarded three straight corner kicks. MSU would cash in on the last one as Lukovic put one in the back of the net at the 14:47 mark for the one-goal advantage.
Montclair State held on to that lead into the second half and looked to add to it early as Lukovic and DANIEL RODRIGUEZ got off shots, however, those were knocked away by TCNJ keeper Julian Franco. MSU's SHANE KEENAN would make three of his own including a stop against Ryan Santos in the 78th minute.
Lukovic gave the Red Hawks some breathing room in at 83:50 converting a penalty kick. Kaghado put the icing on the win scoring with two seconds remaining.
Keenan finished with four saves as he recorded his fifth shutout.
Montclair will have the week off and return to play on Saturday, October 9 against Stockton University at MSU Soccer Park. The kickoff of the Homecoming contest is set for 7:00 pm.
