The Red Hawks (11-1-1, 5-0-0 NJAC) extended their unbeaten streak to eight and have notched seven straight clean sheets. Goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris made three saves for Stockton (8-5-1, 4-1-0 NJAC) in the setback.
Montclair State dominated the first half, outshooting Stockton 8-1, and was rewarded with a goal in the 17th minute. Sophomore
GENE CARLO ALTAMIRANO received the ball and deked a defender before slipping a pass to Lukovic. The rookie took one dribble and faced the goal, launching a shot from well outside the 18-yard box for his team-leading 12th goal of the year.
Staked to the lead, the Red Hawks continued to apply pressure but couldn't find the second goal. After not being tested early,
SHANE KEENAN was pressed into action and made a stop in the 27th minute to preserve the 1-0 lead. Neither side scored in the remainder of the half, and MSU took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Lukovic nearly doubled the lead in the 56th minute, but his low shot trickled just wide of the post. The Ospreys gathered some momentum and had a trio of corner kicks but could not get the equalizer. Keenan came up big in the 59th minute, denying Ian Byrne on a shot. Sophomore
EVAN CHACON put a try off the crossbar in the 68th minute, while classmate
MICHAEL CASPER put a chance wide in the 72nd. The Red Hawks finally found that important second goal, as Lukovic banged home a cross from
JANBI KAGHADO with 6:47 left.
