Galloway, NJ – Stockton's Alexandra Palumbo scored with 15 seconds remaining in the first half that proved to be the difference as the Osprey's upended Montclair State, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Alley Harris made four saves in goal with Palumbo adding two more on defensive saves as Stockton improved to 8-6 overall, 1-4 in the NJAC.
LAUREN PICKUL had a pair of saves for the Red Hawks (6-9, 1-4 NJAC).
Montclair got two immediate chances to put one into the back of the cage, but came up empty on each one. Harris stopped
CARLEE THOMPSON 1:50 into the contest with Palumbo recording the first of her two defensive saves four minutes later. Harris again denied Thompson with 6:21 to play in the quarter and added her third save with 4:26 left on an attempt by
LINDSEY BICHER.
Stockton would get one chance as Palumbo got off a shot inside the final three minutes knocked away by Pickul.
In the second period, both teams battled it out between the circles for the first 14:45 until Palumbo stole a ball from a defender and put it past Pickul for her seventh goal of the season.
The Red Hawks outshot the Ospreys 3-1 in the third, but couldn't find the equalizer as Harris saved a shot by Thompson with 4:22 left. Montclair State would come within a whisker of tying it up with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth as Bicher sent a shot that was poked away by Columbo preserving the 1-0 win.
MSU closes out its regular season on Saturday, October 30 hosting No. 13 The College of New Jersey at 6:00 pm.
