Stockton Tops Women's Soccer 1-0

Galloway, NJ – The Montclair State women's soccer team dropped its second straight contest, falling 1-0 at Stockton University in New Jersey Athletic Conference play Saturday.

Montclair State (7-4, 3-2 NJAC) doubled up Stockton (10-2-2, 4-0-1 NJAC) 12-6 in shots and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Red Hawks had two early chances, with ZOE STECK having her try stopped by Kylee Sullivan in the fourth minute before LAUREN ERNST's 15th-minute attempt was snuffed out. The Ospreys almost broke through in the 18th minute, as Sydney Williams' shot rang off the crossbar. Goalkeeper HALEY MARTIN preserved the scoreless game with three saves, the final scoring with 9:05 left.

Montclair held a 6-5 edge in shots, while Martin and Sullivan each made three saves.

The Ospreys broke through for a goal 3:25 into the second stanza. Jessica Heitmann netted an unassisted tally to snap the scoreless game. Steck nearly answered off the restart, but Sullivan made yet another save. The two sides combined for just three shots through the first 30 minutes of play in the second half.

Off a set-piece with just 14 minutes remaining, AILEEN CAHILL sent a header that just went over the bar and out. The Red Hawks had a corner shortly after that but were unable to put a shot on target. Montclair continued to press for the equalizer, but the Stockton backline was up to the task and continued to deny MSU scoring opportunities. Montclair State had consecutive corner kicks in the final minute, but TARA LAMBERT's shot glanced off the crossbar before the rebound ended up getting picked out of the air before it crossed the goal line.

Steck tallied four shots in the setback, as Martin made three first-half saves. Stockton received two shots from Williams and Sophia Drea.

The Red Hawks return home on Wednesday as they host Ramapo College at 7 pm.
