Montclair, NJ – Freshman Marvin Cardena collected his first collegiate points with a goal and assist as Montclair State blanked New Jersey City University, 5-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon.

RYAN CATALANO each scored as the Red Hawks improved to 2-0 in their abbreviated NJAC season. MSU recorded its 11
th straight victory against the Gothic Knights, upping its record to 54-10-3 in the series.
Junior goalkeeper Nick Linebaugh made 13 saves for NJCU (0-1, 0-1 NJAC), who were playing their season opener.
Cadena broke a scoreless tie in the the 33
rd minutes with his first career goal. Freshman
OSBIN MENDEZ sent a ball from just beyond the midfield line down the right sideline. Cadena ran on to the serve and moved in against Linebaugh before flipping a shot inside the far post for the 1-0 lead. Stump made it a 2-0 contest 46 seconds later converting a penalty kick.
Montclair State, which led 2-0 at the break, increased its lead at the 53.14 mark of the second half.
BRENT LLEWELLYN served a ball from down low on the right side across to the top-left corner of the box where Catalano ripped a one-timer inside the near post for his first of the season.
Cadena set up Casper to make the score 4-0 in the 73
rd minute with Thomas finishing off MSU's scoring with 1:40 left, tapping in a deflected shot by
ERICK CHICAS.

ANDRES LEZME combined on the shutout for MSU.
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, March 20 when it heads to Union, NJ to take on Kean University. Kickoff the NJAC match at Alumni Stadium is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
