Montclair, NJ:Â The Montclair State field hockey team fell to Kean University 4-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener Wednesday.
In the second meeting between the two schools in eight days, the Cougars (3-0, 1-0 NJAC) received a pair of goals from Jorja Hibschman and two assists from Morgan Stump.
Sophomore LAUREN PICKUL denied the Cougars lone scoring opportunity in the first quarter, stopping Stump off a penalty corner. Sophomore LINDSEY BICHER had the Red Hawks (0-2, 0-1 NJAC) first chance in the 20th minute, but Belly Reynoso stopped her shot.
The Cougars found the back of the cage in the 26th minute as Hibschman netted her first of the evening. Pickul stopped Stump before Hibschman poked in the rebound for the 1-0 lead. Pickul kept the Red Hawks in the game, making three early saves in the third quarter.
Kean broke the game open with two goals in a span of 1:49, as Lia DiPiazza and Peyton Mann recorded tallies. The Cougars kept applying pressure, but Pickul made five stops in the fourth period. Hibschman capped off the scoring at the 58:52 mark, as Stump's blast was deflected in at the right post.
Pickul made a career-high 14 saves in the setback. DiPiazza tallied six shots, as the Cougars held a 21-1 edge in shots.
The Red Hawks return to the field on Saturday, March 20, as they head to Ramapo to face the Roadrunners at 3 pm.
